Sports provision and opportunity is a strength of the school.

All pupils have timetabled PE and swimming sessions as prescribed by the National Curriculum. A positive attitude towards physical activity is encouraged and through this, confidence and self esteem are developed.

Pupils take part in a wide variety of activities both in and out of school. These are enjoyable and appropriate to each pupil’s stage of development.

Sports Premium funding

Sports Premium funding is money provided by the DfE to Primary Schools to improve the quality of PE provision, where some schools may not have access to specialist teaching.

At Yewstock we are fortunate to be able to offer specialist PE teaching for pupils across the school.  We fully believe in and encourage the benefit of an active and healthy lifestyle and developing an interest and mastery of a chosen sport.  Sport is important for well-being and developing fitness, motor skills, concentration, attitude and achievement.

We offer a wide range of Sports provision, including participation in local and county sporting events.  Some of our pupils benefit from traditional school sports whilst others require a more specialist, multi-sensory approach.  We use the Sports Premium funding to develop this provision for the benefit of all pupils.

In 2014 we purchased a trampoline and three members of staff were trained in Rebound Therapy, a programme to support pupils with physical and sensory difficulties.  This can lead to enhanced balance, co-ordination, stimulation and relaxation.
